In Mumbai, the CBI filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh on Monday. Singh was on deputation as an assistant director with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) when he was allegedly caught accepting a bribe in August. Singh was leading an ED search team that conducted a raid at a jeweller's residence in Mumbai regarding a suspected money laundering case associated with an investment app controlled by Chinese nationals. Although Singh was not directly involved in the investigation, he allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from the jeweller after the raid, threatening to incriminate his son if the bribe was not paid. The jeweller reported the corruption to the CBI, which set up a sting operation leading to Singh's arrest in Delhi after he accepted the bribe. Despite his failed bail application in the sessions court, Singh remains in jail custody. The CBI also seized a phone not registered in Singh's name during his arrest.
